The Liminal Farmstead?
The Liminal Farmstead? What happened to the EB Ranch Farmstead?
“Liminal spaces are transitional or in-between places that evoke feelings of eeriness or nostalgia, often depicted as empty or abandoned locations. The term "liminal" comes from the Latin word for "threshold," representing a state of change or transition.” I think farms and rural places are naturally liminal spaces. And a name change felt right.
I have been navigating the slippery path of social media. Deleting my FB account and everything meta. While establishing a page on Bluesky and choosing to share updates on my YouTube channel. As life has shifted, and I no longer run the farmstead as a business, making some of these social media shift choices became easier. I look forward to continued work with the San Clemente Island goat breed. Including line preservation, understanding, and growing the uncommon color variations. With an emphasis on better establishing myself as an anti-racist, witchy conservation farmer.
The amount of grotesque bigotry I have been navigating over the years came to a boiling point last year. I saw my patience and "grace" being weaponized against me, and potentially and realistically putting friends in vulnerable situations. The tiny stream of thinly veiled racism was too much. Gentle, or thoughtful reminders on how our thinking and language hurt people just don’t seem to sink in for these people I have kept in my life, but at arm’s length. Why continue wasting my time and energy on bigots who won’t consider change? Instead, focus will be on people who have the base value of respect and dignity for humanity. If we don’t have that commonality, then there is nothing to build from.
I abhor the white "heritage" nationalism associated with the lifestyle I lead. As I feel liberated from the shackles of running a business, I can focus even more on my connection to the occult and witchery. And how that is and always has been braided with everything farming and the land I'm privileged to live on. It will be a more enjoyable adventure forward, expressing these rituals and embracing my intuition.
